Saxa Vord is the UK's most northerly resort, situated in the wild and beautiful Shetland Islands.
Saxa Vord's size, shape and composition, together with its location on Unst, one of the North Atlantic's most fascinating and diverse islands, makes it ideally suited to its new role as the centre for natural and cultural heritage in Scotland.
We offer a choice of warm, bright, comfortable & welcoming self catering holiday houses and hostel rooms, with the option of eating and relaxing in the restaurant and lounge bar.
If you're looking for Shetland self-catering accommodation, our Nordabrake self-catering houses are ideal for parties of all shapes and sizes, from couples to families to larger parties wanting to rent several houses together: for people wanting to do their own thing while taking advantage of our facilities as and when it suits.
Nordabrake is situated on the north side of Saxa Vord and consists of 13 warm and comfortable houses set in a circle around a central lawn with children’s play area.
You can cater entirely for yourself in a fully-fitted kitchen, or alternatively you can relax while enjoying delicious meals in our restaurant.
Houses are generally let on a weekly basis. However, they may also be rented from as little as 2 nights if your stay on Unst is shorter. The houses sleep 5 adults.
All houses are equipped with a wide range of useful appliances to make your stay as enjoyable and carefree as possible.
Facilities:
Delicious and homely gastro pub meals are the order of the day at our restaurant. During the season we are open from 6-9pm, welcoming of solo travellers to large family bookings and everything in between. The menu has a wide choice with fresh ingredients from the sea to the land.
The cafe is nestled inside a fascinating museum which showcases the history of the buildings and the surrounding area. A perfect place to re-energise with a cup of tea or coffee and perhaps a slice of delicious cake or an ever popular tray bake treat.
Roughly rectangular in shape and a mere 12 miles from north to south and 5 from east to west, Unst may be small but it packs a punch way above its size when it comes to things to see and experience. Indeed, Robert Louis Stevenson visited Unst in 1869 to see the Muckle Flugga lighthouse, built by his father a few years earlier, and was so impressed that some say that he used it as the basis for his “Treasure Island” map. Impressive it remains: Unst really IS the island above all others!
