Welcome to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. A unique self-catering holiday accommodation on the Atlantic coast of the Isle of Lewis, close to the Callanish Standing Stones and Carloway Broch. Open all year. An ideal location for exploring the Western Isles – scenery, archaeology, environment and wildlife, with opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, surfing or relaxing. In season, the village and its living museum are open for visitors and bus tours.

The Gearrannan Blackhouse Village offers a wide range of accommodation, ranging from 2 star group accommodation sleeping 16, to 4 star family cottages.

In the morning you can wake up to the crashing Atlantic Ocean on your doorstep, while in the evening you can relax in front of a real fire. During the day you can enjoy the variety that the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village has to offer, or you can spend your time taking in the rest of the islands.

Taigh Thormoid ‘an ‘ic Iain
The House of Norman (1824-1900), the son of Iain
This 3 star blackhouse is in the oldest part of the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. It offers a sea view, solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, double bedroom, shower room, fully fitted kitchenette, and a sitting room. It is perfect for a single person or a couple.

Taigh Làta
Làta was the nickname of John MacLeod 1859-1948
This 2 star group accommodation blackhouse was one of the first to be restored in the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. It offers a solid fuel stove, radiators, fully fitted kitchenette, and two seating areas. The accommodation is bunkhouse style, with sleeping areas of six, six, and two. The house also has two toilets and two shower rooms. It is perfect for a large family or organised group.

Taigh Glass
Glass was the nickname of Donald MacLeod 1860-1953
This 4 star cottage offers a solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, shower room, double bedroom, single bedroom, fully fitted kitchenette, and a living area with a double sofa bed. It is perfect for a family. The house has been restored with the needs of disabled visitors in mind.

Taigh an t-Seòladair
The Sailor’s House. The ‘Sailor’ was Donald MacLeod 1865-1938
This 4 star blackhouse offers a solid fuel stove, underfloor heating, shower room, double bedroom, a single bedroom, fully fitted kitchenette, and a living area with a double sofa bed. It is perfect for a family.

The Gearrannan Hostel / Taigh Dhonnchaidh
Duncan’s House – Duncan Macleod 1861-1940
On the outside, The Gearrannan Hostel is still ‘Taigh Dhonnchaidh’ (Duncan’s House) with its solid drystone walls and thatched roof, but the newly refurbished inside offers all the comforts of a modern home, with a well equipped kitchen and cosy warmth from radiators heated with renewable energy. The bedrooms have cosy bunk-beds, and all linen is provided. There are two modern shower rooms. The hostel offers accommodation for 10, plus a family room for 3.
