Cartwheel Bothy on the Isle of Scalpay is an ideal base from which to explore the Hebrides.
The Isle of Scalpay is only 2.5 miles, or 4k in length, its nearest neighbour is the Isle of Harris only 330 yards away, that's 300m. Up till 1997 the only way to get to Scalpay was by ferry, now it has a bridge which makes this stunning little island accessible to the main Hebridean Islands of both Harris and Lewis as well as a host of smaller other bridged isles such as Great Bernera.
But this is only Scalpay, with The Isle of Harris and Lewis on your doorstep the scope for a real Hebridean Adventure beckons. Cartwheel Bothy Self Catering Cottage is ideal, within driving distance of all the main Hebridean attractions and you can still be home for tea!
We completed renovating in November 2011 and it's been a labour of love converting this into a holiday cottage. It's now cosy but at the same time functional, with modern appliances, stylish and clean – it would make a romantic honeymooners venue or just a retreat for those wanting to 'get away from it all'. It would also make a great base for anglers, walkers and birdwatchers.
Cartwheel Bothy was designed with couples in mind so is ideal for that romantic getaway, or just to relax and enjoy each others company. If you have a child, there is plenty of room for a travel cot.
Facilities
- Open plan living / dining / kitchen
- One bedroom – king size bed (plenty of room for a travel cot)
- Shower room / toilet etc – power shower, heated towel rail
- Gravelled seating area to the front (overlooking the bay)
- Gravelled parking area (plenty of room if you want to bring your own boat)
- Fully enclosed rear garden
- All tastefully decorated and well equipped
- All bed linen and towels are provided
The scenery is stunning around the cottage and we have taken full advantage of this with French doors from the lounge area giving uninterrupted views to the bay. The same view can be enjoyed from the large bedroom window. On an evening the sunsets can be awesome, with skies blood red and orange. And after the sun has set the stars are spectacular on a clear night with the milky way and constellations clearly visible and shooting stars can often be observed. We have even watched the aurora on several occasions.
Well behaved dogs are accepted. We do ask you to provide your own 'doggie' towels and covers and make sure your dogs have a good shake and wipe down before entering the cottage. There is a fully enclosed garden to the rear of the cottage. We also ask that you clean up outside after your pets. We do charge an additional £10 per week for the extra cleaning required to ensure that the next guests do not even know your pets have been.
