Carmichael Estate

The Carmichael Estate has been the historic home of the Carmichael family for over 8 centuries and is one of Scotland’s oldest family farming businesses (established 1292).

The modern Estate is a fully diversified rural business including self-catering accommodation, agriculture, forestry, retail meat sales, farm shop and tearoom.

The Carmichael Estate has 16 quality assured self-catering holiday cottages which are dotted around the beautiful and historic Estate. Just 50 minutes from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Carmichael Estate makes an ideal touring base for Southern Scotland. A truly Scottish Agri Toursim experience.

Two hundred year old stone cottages nestle amongst the ancient sylvan landscape of the Clan lands of the Carmichaels. A ‘time-capsule’ 800 years of single family land stewardship of breathtaking beauty and contrasts. A land of ancient beech trees and ruined castles, of abundant wildlife and productive farming and forestry. A place to relax, to unwind, to exercise or to play in complete harmony with nature and the environment. Climb majestic Tinto Hill (707m), see the Falls of Clyde and the World Heritage Industrial Village at New Lanark; visit the Biggar museums or shop in historic Peebles or Edinburgh. All of our cottages are pet friendly and well behaved dogs with their own beds are welcome. The first dog is free of charge and every dog after that is £12 for the duration of the stay. Please ask if bringing pets other than dogs.

Opened in 1994, the Carmichael Visitor Centre includes our own Farm Shop, The Carmichael Bistro & Tearoom and the former Edinburgh Wax Model Collection depicting Scotland’s millennium from Queen Margaret and Macbeth through to the present day.
